As you read Kozol for next week, think about our discussion about Delpit and the relationship between Individuals and Institutions. If the "game" is designed for the dominant group (SCWAAMP), then how do individual "marbles" make their way through the system? Remember that it is not any individual marble's FAULT... it is about how the game is designed. That means it is not about bad people. It is about an invisible system that we often forget to see.

Dr Bogad, I will try to clarify my position. I said in class that the federal mandate on testing is definitely flawed and could be curved towards white Americans. I agree with Delpit in the fact that we should be explicit in our teaching to all cultures and not assume that kids of different races are going to just "get it." The interview of the Indian gentleman not getting that specific job was a clear sign that we are not teaching the correct materials to other cultures. I am an optimistic person and I hope that injustices in learning as Delpit describes is more of her own personal theory and not what happens on a majority of culture differences. I just cannot believe a white teacher in this day and age would go out of their way to make sure a person of a different race did not have the same oppurtunity as a white child.
